"Why Crowdfunding Campaigns Fail: The Top Mistakes to Watch Out For"

You did it! You set the date. Closed the deal with your crowdfunding

platform of choice. And FINALLY met with your campaign team.

Soon, you’ll be raking in the donations…

and we’re so freakin’ excited for you. Here’s how to NOT mess it all up.

***

Discover the 5 secret pitfalls every fundraiser needs to tackle before the BIG day to boost donor conversion AND hit your goal.

1. Not giving yourself time to prepare

Sure, you might need those donations fast, but failing to prepare is a sure way to burn out your donors and sacrifice your long term goals for short term gains. You might think your crowd won’t notice boring, formulaic writing, copy and paste designs, or your lack of any kind of compelling marketing strategy―but they do.

And your donate button will feel it.

Take the time to refine your pitch, set a realistic goal and develop a marketing strategy to reach potential donors.

2. Not Building a Community

Community support is the ride or die of crowdfunding campaigns.

So why is yours hitting the gas without you???

Here’s why.

You failed to build a highly engaged community before launching your campaign.

Avoid this issue by launching an online presence at least six months before your campaign. This will give you enough time to grow and engage your audience through social media, email, and other channels―before you ask them for money.

3. Lack of Transparency

Are you being straight with your people?

Donors want to know how their money will be used. Many campaigns fail because they don't provide enough information about their project or don't communicate their progress regularly.

Be transparent about your project's goals, timelines, and budget. Provide regular updates to your donors and be responsive to their questions and feedback.

4. Unrealistic Goals

Setting unrealistic fundraising goals is a recipe for disaster. Hello, 2 AM call to your campaign manager shooing koalas out of their car somewhere in Australia.

While this seems basic, it's surprising how many people overestimate their donors’ love for the cause. (Hint: It’s never as much as you think UNLESS you make it their top priority).

Do your research, assess your network's capacity, and set a realistic goal that will motivate donors to contribute.

5. Lack of Follow-Through

Your relationships are built on trust. And you can’t have trust if you’re not following through on your promises.

This can include not delivering rewards on time or failing to communicate effectively with donors. To avoid this, create a plan to fulfill your promises, communicate regularly with your donors, and provide updates on your progress.

Show your appreciation by thanking your donors and providing them with value beyond the campaign!
